He established his reputation as a painter of wild seas with foaming waves and keeling ships but later in life he preferred the tranquility of the Norwegian mountains. He was a frequent visitor to the so-called 'Home of the Giants' (Jotunheimen) where this work was most probably painted.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHaakon was also well known for his large-scale murals which covered the walls of hotels and sanitorium's in Norway, although sadly they are all long gone. His paintings, however remain and can be found in numerous public and private collections.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe painting Haakon considered to be his finest, ' Skagastølsbræen' is part of the world-renowned Grieg Art Collection, a collection dedicated to masterpieces of Norwegian art.
